24-heaven…Rolex 24 at Daytona is one of the biggest tick boxes for Scottish drivers
IT is one of the most brutal track races on the calendar, but the Rolex 24 at
Daytona is becoming one of the biggest tick boxes for Scottish drivers.
The likes of DARIO FRANCHITTI and RYAN DALZIEL have been overall winners while
ROBIN LIDDELL and ALLAN McNISH have also had class wins.
Dalziel, Liddell and Sunoco Challenge winner JONNY ADAM were fighting it out
for Scottish pride last weekend — and it was typically tough fare.
Torrential rain had hampered all the teams’ preparations with many drivers
going into the race with just a couple of dry laps. But while the Patron ESM
car took the victory, the overall winner was the race itself. Here’s how the
Scots got on.
ENDURANCE ace RYAN DALZIEL admitted his Florida Racing crew produced a
miracle as they took a hard-fought podium in the Rolex 24.
The 2010 winner had to dig deep as he and MARC GOOSSENS and RYAN
HUNTER-REAY defied a lack of preparation time and pace to stay on the
lead lap after 24 hours in Florida.
Relieved Dalziel said: “We are thrilled. It is always nice to get on the
podium. It is a big race and my home race and a home race for Florida Racing
team. There are a lot of positives and good points for the championship so
we will bank it. We are proud of what we accomplished and we look forward to
Sebring.
