 2019 season Sporting Regulations for the 2020 Sunoco 240 Challenge

1.1 General

The prize for the 2019 season Sunoco 240 Challenge is a fully sponsored drive in a GS (Grand Sport) sports car in the 2020 4-hour Friday sports car race held at Rolex 24 At Daytona race weekend for the highest-scoring racer competing in one of the qualifying Series or Championships during the 2019 race season.

Anglo American Oil Company Ltd (AAOC) and/or its appointed Sunoco 240 Challenge organisation is the only authority for awarding all Sunoco 240 Challenge points, prizes and awards, and naming the Sunoco 240 Challenge winner. The winner will be notified within two weeks after all qualifying Series and Championships have completed the last races of their seasons. AAOC reserves the right to amend these regulations during the course of the racing season should it be deemed necessary to do so.

Prizes and awards for all races will be distributed by AAOC in accordance with these sporting regulations. Sunoco 240 Challenge registered racers agree to abide by decisions of AAOC with respect to the establishment and distribution of points and the Sunoco 240 Challenge award.

1.3.1 Fully paid race seat in a GS class GT4 race at the same race weekend as the Rolex 24 At Daytona®.

1.3.2 Return flights from London Gatwick to Orlando/Florida and ground transportation to Daytona Speedway for pre-race testing and the 2019 Rolex 24 At Daytona® are included (subject to flight availability).

1.3.3 Hotel rooms for pre-race testing and the 2019 Rolex 24 At Daytona® race week are included.

1.3.4 Insurance for the car is covered by AAOC (level of excess to be notified and covered by the driver).

1.3.4(a) Personal travel and racing insurance is not included in the prize.

1.3.5 All other costs shall be borne by the Sunoco 240 Challenge winner, including in particular ensuring that he/she has the required licence, which is ideally an FIA International Class B licence or at least an FIA International Class C licence and that their personal race gear conforms to IMSA regulations (suit, helmet and radio). Personal insurance to be covered by the Sunoco 240 Challenge winner.

1.3.6 The Sunoco 240 Challenge award cannot be exchanged for cash or any other substitute of any nature and cannot be transferred.

1.3.7 AAOC accepts no liability in respect of the satisfaction of future tax liabilities arising on the prize winner as a result of the prize offered.

1.3.8 Should the Sunoco 240 Challenge winner be unable to claim the award, the situation will be resolved by AAOC at its sole discretion.

Drivers competing in the Britcar Endurance Championship, GT Cup, F3 Cup Championship, Radical Challenge Championship, UK JCW MINI Challenge, UK Mini Cooper Pro Challenge, and AM drivers in British GT3 and GT4, TCT/TCR, Ginetta GT5, Ginetta G40, SPEED Euroseries, LMP3 Ultimate Cup, are eligible to register for the Sunoco 240 Challenge*. *AAOC reserves the right to add further series/championships to the 2020 Sunoco 240 Challenge.

1.4.1 Britcar – all classes will be counted as separate classes.

1.4.2 GT Cup – Class GTO, GTC, GTB, GTA and GTH will be counted as separate classes but only the Sunday race will count towards the Sunoco 240 Challenge.

1.4.3 F3 Cup – Class Cup and Trophy will be counted as separate classes.

1.4.4 Radical Challenge Championship –SR3 RSX, SR3 RS and SR3 are eligible and will be counted as one class

1.4.5 British GT3 and GT4 Am drivers

1.4.6 LMP3 Cup Am drivers

1.4.8 UK MINI Challenge – JCW and Cooper Pro will be counted as separate classes.

Registration for the Sunoco 240 Challenge is free. However, new for 2019 season is the boost option of an average point allocation for all competitors that donate £20 to the Team Fox cure for Parkinson. This can be done directly to AAOC personnel or via the Sunoco 240 Challenge website. The official registration document must be completed before the start of the first point scoring race. Racers can enter after the first race, but will only score points after official registration documents have been filled in. Note. Racer’s points will still be averaged to the total number of races in the series or championship, even if the racer has entered after the first race or missed rounds in the 2019 season.
1.5.1 Registered racers can only score points from one qualifying series or championship and cannot switch series or championship once points have been scored in one series or championship. Racers signed up for two eligible Championships must decide their Championship preference at the start of the season.

1.5.2 A Racer who has previously competed in the BMW Performance 240 support race to the Rolex 24 At Daytona® in a GS car is not eligible to register for the Sunoco 240 Challenge.

1.5.3 AAOC reserves the right to refuse registrations at its own absolute discretion.

Points will be awarded to the first 10 finishers in each race according to the chart below plus 20 points for pole position and 20 points for fastest lap:

1.6.1 In a two-driver car, both drivers will gain points according to race classification.

1.6.2 Points for pole position shall be given to the fastest time from qualifying and will not take into account any specific championship/series regulations. If one qualifying session is used for two races at the weekend it will be the fastest and second fastest time that counts towards the pole position points. If one qualifying session is used for three races it will be the three fastest times counting towards pole position points.

1.6.3 Should less than 10 cars in each class in a championship/series start a race, points will be calculated by reference to the number of cars starting the race. E.g. if 8 cars start the race, points from the race including points for fastest lap and qualifying will be calculated on the basis that 80% only of the points normally awarded for race result, fastest lap and pole position will be awarded.

1.6.4 Points will be averaged. This means that each driver’s total points for the race season will be divided by the number of races in the series or championship regardless of how many races the individual racer has competed in the series or championship.

1.6.5 All rounds** in a series or championship count towards the Sunoco 240 Challenge.
**The last point scoring race towards the Sunoco 240 Challenge for the eligible series are:

• Radical Challenge Championship –29th September at Donington Park
• British GT4 AM & GT3 AM drivers, Ginetta GT5 and G40 – 15th September at Donington Park
• Britcar – 26th October at Oulton Park
• Mini Challenge, TCT/TCR – 20th October at Snetterton
• Ultimate cup LMP3 and SPEED – 20th October at Magny-Cours

1.6.6 Points will be awarded for the first 10 cars even if 10 cars are not classified as finishers according to individual qualifying series scoring system. This means that if only 6 cars are classified as finishers we will award points in the order they are listed including DNF down to tenth position.

1.6.7 Points will be given according to the classification system regardless if the finishers are registered for the Sunoco 240 Challenge. This means should the top registered Sunoco 240 Challenge competitor finish in second place he will be given 85 points and not 100 points. The same applies to fastest lap and pole position. However, invitation cars are not counted as starters or finishers (as long as they are specified on the results sheet).

1.6.8 Pro-driver. In a two-driver team the pro-driver can not be changed during the season other than through exceptional circumstances.

1.6.9 Pole position:

1.6.9.1 We will allocate pole position points using the following system. The fastest lap points will be individual and given to the driver that sets the fastest time not to both drivers if there is a two driver per car race format. If there is one qualifying for two races we will count the fastest lap and the second fastest lap towards the two pole position points. Three races it will be the three fastest laps etc. If there is a split qualifying such as British GT where each of the drivers in each car have 15 minutes individual qualifying sessions we will combine the two qualifying sessions and count them as one. This means that the two fastest laps combined will be awarded pole position points.

1.6.10 One driver in a two driver race format – should a driver register for the Sunoco 240 Challenge and single handed compete in a Championship designed for two drivers he/she will only be awarded 90% of the earned points.

1.6.11 Ties – In the case of a tie in the final point standings, the tie will be broken according to the racers’ relative number of first place finishes, the number of seconds, etc. down to tenth place finishes. If the tie is still not broken, firstly the number of weighted pole position points and secondly the weighted fastest lap points will be decisive. In the unlikelihood that there is still a tie after race results, pole positions and fastest laps are accounted for AAOC reserves the right to choose a suitable vehicle to break the tie.

1.6.12 British GT. Due to the complexity of the balance of performance British GT Drivers will be allowed an extra 10% added to any points earnt.

1.6.13 Dispute – AAOC will decide any dispute or question about awarded points.

Registered racers will endeavour to race competitively and fairly. In addition they must make sure that the trademarks of Sunoco 240 Challenge, Sunoco and Anglo American Oil Company Ltd (the brands) are treated with respect. Should a racer be found to refer to the brands disrespectfully, AAOC reserves the right in its sole discretion either fully or partly to disallow Sunoco 240 Challenge points that would otherwise have been collected.

1.7.1 Registered racers agree to clearly display two Sunoco 240 Challenge logos on the race car visible at the front of each side pod or at the lower part of the front of the race cars’ doors.

1.7.2 Registered racers agree to display one Sunoco sew-on patch on the right arm of their racing overalls and one Sunoco 240 Challenge sew-on patch in the left breast area of their racing overalls (other positions may be allowed on a case by case approval).

1.7.3 Registered racers agree to use Sunoco Race fuels throughout the entire 2019 race season to be eligible to score points towards the 2019 Sunoco 240 Challenge.

The winner of the Sunoco 240 Challenge will not only be awarded the prize according to 1.3 but also be the ambassador for 240 and Sunoco in Europe and the award of this prize imposes certain specific obligations on the winner, who must:

1.8.1 Wear clothing as provided by AAOC (there will be dedicated place for the winner’s private sponsors – however, private sponsors cannot clash with the brands) when and where requested to do so by AAOC.

1.8.2 Appear, with notice, at press conferences and shows when asked to do so by AAOC (travelling costs will be covered).

1.8.3 Be available for photo-shoots and other marketing and PR activities with reasonable notice.

1.8.4 Any other activities as may be deemed appropriate and reasonable by AAOC.

1.8.5 Virtual media such as Facebook, Press releases and Twitter must be issued within the spirit of regulation 1.7 This means that no adverse comments can be made concerning, Sunoco 240 Challenge, Rolex 24 At Daytona, Daytona Motor Speedway, Anglo American Oil Company, Sunoco, the Driven Racing Oil and teams involved in testing including all parties employees and principals. This also includes public appearances.

1.8.6 Be available for the duration of the Roar pre-test (3-5th Jan 2020) and for the Rolex 24 At Daytona (22-24th Jan 2020).
